Adoption visa (subclass 102)

A Adoption visa (subclass 102) allows an overseas adopted child to live with their adoptive parents in Australia. The child must also be sponsored by an adoptive parent.

Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 114)

A Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 114) is for people who are old enough to receive the Australian aged pension and their near relatives are residing permanently in Australia.

This visa enables persons in these circumstances to move and live in Australia permanently, provided you are dependant upon your relative who is willing to sponsor you.

The visa is designed for single, older applicants, who are dependant upon a relative living in Australia to provide them with financial support and care.

Aged Parent visa (subclass 804)

A Aged Parent visa (subclass 804) is for people who are eligible for the Australia age pension. This visa will allow you to live in Australia with your child permanently, provided they are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or are an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia.

While this visa has the lowest application fee of all the Parent Visas, applicants must be prepared to wait in a queue for their visa to be processed as waiting times of up to 30 years for approval may apply.

Carer visa (subclass 116)

A carer visa (subclass 116) is for people who have an Australian relative or a member of their family who has a medical condition and requires care.The visa applicant must be sponsored by their Australian relative or their Australian relative’s partner.

Child visa (subclass 101)

A Child visa (subclass 101) is for children who have a parent who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. They are able to live in Australia permanently.

They must be sponsored by an eligible parent.

Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884)

A Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884) is for a parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. The visa will allow you to live in Australia for up to two years.

This visa has a shorter queue for processing and no Assurance of Support is necessary. While there is a much higher application fee to cover the costs of medical expenses, the visa allows applications to spread the costs over the period of time that they are in Australia.

If you are granted this visa, you may be able to apply for the Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Permanent) Subclass 864 provided you meet the relevant criteria.

You must be sponsored by your child, or spouse of one of their children.

Contributory Aged Parent (Permanent) visa (subclass 864)

A Contributory Aged Parent (Permanent) visa (subclass 864) is for a parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. The visa will allow you to live in Australia permanently.

This visa has a shorter queue for processing but an assurance of support is required. The large “Contribution” of money that is called for upon the second instalment is in order to offset the rights that are awarded to the visa holder under permanent residency such as health care that they have not contributed towards throughout their lives as ordinary Australians have throughout their life by way of tax.

You must be sponsored by your child, or spouse of one of their children.

Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173)

A Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173) is for a parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. The visa will allow you to live in Australia for up to two years.

Orphan Relative (subclass 117)

A Orphan Relative (subclass 117) visa is for children whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or whose whereabouts are unknown and enables them to live permanently in Australia with their relative who must be an Australian Citizen, a Permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand Citizen.

You must be sponsored by your relative.

Dependent Child visa (subclass 445)

A Dependent Child visa is for children whose parent holds a temporary partner visa and is in the process of obtaining a permanent partner visa.

Parent visa (subclass 103)

A Parent visa (subclass 103) is for a parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or are an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia.

This visa will allow you to live in Australia with your child permanently.

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870)

A Parent visa (subclass 870) is for a parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or are an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia.

This visa will allow you to visit Australia for up to 3 to 5 years.

  • Can visit up to a maximum of 10 years
  • Cannot work in Australia
  • Must have an approved parent sponsor before visa can be submitted.
Partner (Provisional and Migrant) visa (subclass 309 100)

An offshorePartner visa allows you to enter and remain in Australia on the basis of your married or de-facto relationship with your partner (a) on a Partner (Provisional) (subclass 309 visa (usually for a waiting period of approximately two (2) years from the date you applied for the visa) or (b) on a Partner (Migrant) (subclass 100) visa if, after the waiting period (if applicable), your partner relationship still exists and you are still eligible for this visa.

This visa includes dependant children and other eligible dependent relatives.

You must be sponsored by an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, usually your partner.

Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300)

A Prospective Marriage visa (Subclass 300) is for people who want to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse. This visa is temporary and is valid for 9 months.

Once in Australia you must marry your intended spouse (your fiancée) within the time-frame of the visa. Once you are married, you must lodge your Partner (Provisional and Migrant) visa (Subclasses 820 and 801) application before the expiry of your Prospective Marriage Visa if you wish to remain in Australia.

The Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) is the ideal pathway to marriage and permanent residency in Australia.

Partner (Provisional and Migrant) visa (subclass 820 801)

An onshore Partner visa allows you to enter and remain in Australia on the basis of your married or de-facto relationship with your partner (a) on a Partner (Provisional) (subclass 820) visa (usually for a waiting period of approximately two (2) years from the date you applied for the visa) or (b) on a Partner (Migrant) (subclass 801) visa if, after the waiting period (if applicable), your partner relationship still exists and you are still eligible for this visa.

This visa includes dependant children and other eligible dependent relatives.

You must be sponsored by an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, usually your partner.

Remaining Relative visa (subclass 835)

A Remaining Relative visa (subclass835) is for someone inside Australia whose only near relatives are living in Australia and are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. It allows you to live in Australia as a permanent resident.

You must be sponsored by an eligible relative (or your relative’s eligible partner), in Australia.

Sponsored Partner (temporary) visa (subclass 870)

A Sponsored Partner (Temporary) visa is for parents of Australian permanent residents or citizens to live in Australia for a continuous period of up to 5 years. After this 5 year period, there will be a single opportunity to renew the visa for a further 5 years. Once both visas have been used then parents will have to leave Australia.

The 870 visa will be processed in two stages, whereby the child must be an approved sponsor before their parents can apply for the visa.

There are 15,000 places available each year under this visa category.

Similar to existing parent visas, parents will be sponsored by their child residing in Australia who must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and have lived in Australia for a minimum of 4 years prior to lodgement of the visa.

The child will act as a financial guarantor for the time their parents remain in Australia.
